AED Sales For Ontario Workplaces: What To Know Before You Buy
A defibrillator on the wall is reassuring, but only if the people around it know what to do when a colleague collapses. That is why AED sales and AED training belong in the same conversation for any Ontario workplace. Here is what to think about before you buy, and how the rest of your emergency setup fits around it.
What An AED Does Until Professional Help Arrives
An Automated External Defibrillator, or AED, is a compact device that analyzes a person's heart rhythm and delivers a lifesaving shock when needed. It helps restart the heart until professional medical assistance arrives. That makes the people standing nearby the most important part of the plan, which is why training matters as much as the device itself.
What To Look For Before You Buy An AED
When you compare AED sales from different suppliers, look for a device that fits your environment and budget, backed by support that doesn't end once the invoice is paid. It helps if the supplier also provides training, offers practical resources, and answers questions after delivery.
Heart Starters Inc., for example, pairs AED sales with AED training across Ontario, and its AED Implementation Guide is available as a download to help you stay ready. The site also offers a product catalogue and purchase order form for anyone ready to order.
A Simple Checklist For Comparing Suppliers
It can help to put the same questions to every supplier before you decide:
Does the device suit your workplace and your budget?
Does the supplier offer AED training, or only the equipment?
Are practical resources, such as an implementation guide, included?
Will someone answer your questions after delivery?
A supplier who can say yes to all four is offering you a program, not just a product.
Why Trained People Matter As Much As The Device
The device is only half of readiness. CPR AED & first aid certification gives your team the confidence to act quickly when seconds matter, and the learning is hands-on rather than theoretical.
Two WSIB-approved courses cover this ground: Basic (Emergency) First Aid with CPR AED Level C and Intermediate (Standard) First Aid with CPR AED Level C. CPR AED Level C is included in both, so your people learn AED use as part of the same certification, and that certification is valid for three years.
The training comes to you. Sessions are held at your workplace, are private, are booked for your organization only, and include all equipment. Every course is for groups of at least 10 people, so it works best when a whole team certifies together. To train your team on-site, request a quote.
How Many People Should Be Trained?
Coverage is per shift, not per building. If you have two shifts, you need qualified coverage for each one, not just one trained individual who is off shift by 3 pm. An AED on the wall doesn't change that. It only helps if someone on every shift knows how to use it. Training a group of 10 or more gives you backup for absences on each shift, and because the whole group certifies together, everyone's renewal date lines up.
Your First Aid Kit Needs Upkeep Too
AEDs get most of the attention, but the first aid kit on the wall does a lot of everyday work, and it needs looking after. Under Regulation 1101, the employer covers the cost of first aid equipment and services. That equipment must be inspected regularly, with proper records kept.
That is the gap a replenishment program is meant to close: someone restocks, records and maintains the equipment so it never slips down the to-do list. A single non-compliance ticket during a Ministry of Labour (MOL) visit can also cost more than a full year of replenishing. If you're not sure where your kit stands, our free First Aid Kit Audit is a simple place to start.
Take Stock Before You Place An Order
Before you place any order, take stock of your first aid kit supplies: what is in the kit, what's been used, and what's never been checked. A quick audit shows what is missing and lets you plan AED purchases and training around real gaps instead of guesses.
Heart Starters Inc. has trained Ontario workplaces since 1995, including daycares, construction firms, dentists, retailers, hotels, food and beverage businesses, golf courses, clothing and fashion companies, universities and colleges, and sports clubs. Groups of 10 or more can book training to come to their workplace. To discuss AED sales, training, or the replenishment program, contact Heart Starters Inc. today.
